Oh, the triggering elements in this book are couched well in the story of a girl who is bullied and suffering anxiety due to the trauma of losing her father as a young girl. 

Kendall Shepherd is in a rough headspace. Her social anxiety has her so paralyzed that she’s taken solace in the company of the dogs she works to rescue and rehabilitate. Peter, her imaginary friend, also known as her anxiety disorder, is a constant automatic negative thought factory. She must struggle with him through all things great and small. Worse is he really has crushed her confidence to the point where real people’s motivations are suspect at best. Dogs are constant and love unconditionally.

Haters will hate The Boy on the Bridge hard, but too bad because it’s Sam Mariano at her finest.

Not for the weak, Sam Mariano’s newest book has a hero that is broken and twisted. Hunter Maxwell’s character has an ambiguous moral compass but maintains the ability to be remorseful of his most heinous and tragic actions. It doesn’t necessarily stop him from doing heinous or tragic things.

Riley Bishop is a glutton for punishment. She knows that she did something that Hunter can’t forgive, but she still tries to make him forget it until she has something she can’t forgive. Her greatest sin was to fall in love with him and try to protect him. His is his inability to stop manipulating her and the people around him—a far larger problem.

The clever name appeals. The book is pretty great, too, though.

Whitney and Wyatt have a past. It included a steamy tryst by a dumpster in an alley a couple of years ago. After a renovation at their funeral home goes sideways, and much to Whit’s unamusement, Wyatt is the solution her best friend has to her problems. Whit would rather die in a dumpster than see the sexy man again, but she can’t get rid of him when her dad signs a contract with him to do the work.

Did I mention how much the clever name appeals to me? It is perfect. Kudos, Heather M. Orgeron, you rock at this title thing.

I adored this story. While Whitney and Wyatt are plenty entertaining alone, Prissy, Whit’s daughter, steals the show. I consider this a Rom-Com solely due to Priss. The love story itself is sweet, sexy, steamy, and satisfying, but all the hilarity is because of the six-year-old goth-girl-in-the-making with a collection of glass eyeballs.

It’s always sad when book two is less than book one. I looked forward to this one because Zee was such a significant character in Faith’s book that I figured Zee’s book would be monumental. But it fell short. Sadness.

Zoey Porter and Cooper Danford are flint and kindling; together, they make fire. The two are so steamy they mate like bunnies, and it’s not going against the odds that they find themselves in the family way.

Family way? What am I in the fifties? She’s up the duff. Zee’s knocked up, and Coop’s swimmers are champions.
