I picked this up from Amazon when it was on free promotion to feed my morbid fascination for human misery. That is sad self statement–yet true; stories of this sort reaffirm the idea that hope may persevere tragic times. Why I need the reminder probably says something ‘tragic’ about myself.

I like the Charles River Editors books a great deal for the context and information presented in each of their topical documentaries. The 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami report briefly covers the events of the Boxing Day disaster that killed over 300,000 people who were along the shores of the Indian Ocean. The poignant recounting of loss from those who were witnesses and victims is respectfully treated. The collation of the personal stories woven together allowing the reader to get an integrated sense of the events. Continue Reading

Wendy Higgins rocks socks and knocks boots once again with this baby. My heart has been stolen in what certainly is another ‘my book boyfriend is hotter than your book boyfriend’ series.

Taking a step away from the supernatural Sweet Series, Unknown is a sci-fi story with a kiss of apocalyptic WTH on the side. Suddenly the potato farm region of Nevada is a place where something other than meth labs and tubers flourish. I have fallen head over heels for Anton over my many readings of His Purrfect Mate. He becomes more and more dear to me each time I pick up this Mate Set novel.

Elroy holds his sons up to the example he leads, to be warriors and protectors. He expects Anton to be his heir, ready to lead the Harris wolves when Alpha steps down. Describe this book in nine words: Raw and naughty on the razor’s edge of tragedy.

I normally would focus on the hot and sexy of a smutty book like this because HOT AND SEXY! There is nothing bad when those two things hang out together. And it’s enough to turn my head every time. The true value of this novel isn’t steam related in anyway– but I will reiterate, it’s high on steam.

Gina L. Maxwell interjects a heart wrenching undertone to Ruthless I think many erotic novels get snipped out in editing or overshadowed by inserted sensual scenes. In this second Playboys in Love novel Gina L. Maxwell stunningly retains a level of dark truth about broken relationships that plague the psyche of lovers throughout time. I am going to do this review in two parts because the beginning and the end of this book demand I do so.

PART ONE:

This novel takes place in my hometown San Diego. I’m that adolescent nerd whose heart glows with pride thinking that I’m sharing an inside joke with someone when they honor my little town. The joy I have for America’s Finest City’s starring role in TMD’s book endeared me to the story before I opened the book.

Weh I saw it I danced and sang, “Listen up, y’all! SD is in the house, R-E-S-P-E-C-T America’s Finest City! Holla”. Yep, I did.

Having lost her family and watching her children die of the red plague before her eyes, Riley has nothing left for her at home. San Diego was devastated and the earth has become depopulated after the pandemic. Riley and her dog are survivors stranded in a post apocalyptic nightmare. Trish Marie Dawson’s illustration of this grotesque afterlife is the backdrop for her main character’s struggle to tether herself in a world suddenly without purchase, as she ventures out leaving messages to anyone who may come looking for her with, ‘I hope you find me’. Yeah baby! This first Playboys in Love book is for nasty babes who don’t know how to fix a sink or clear a browser history. Don’t pretend you haven’t been there; all we nasty babes have. Too bad we can’t all have a ‘Handyman’ clear our pipes for us.

Jane is a sexually repressed student just trying to get through her thesis and hoping that there is life on the other side. Sometimes it’s impossible to get those last few pages written when you aren’t properly motivated. How can someone write about the issues of objectification in society when they only have one sample group as research?

First of all this book made me feel uncomfortable. I did not finish it.

Kristy Abner is a vile 33 year old horrible excuse of womanhood. Harsh? NOT IN ANYWAY.

This mother of a 16 year old daughter is obsessed with her 17 year old neighbor, Ash Jenkins. Worse yet, he is stars-in-his-eyes and excitement-in-his-loins in love with her. Female 101 teaches you to not dabble in the dating pool of your own teenage daughter but Kristy is thrilled by the attention she gets from Ash and charmed by the fact that he seeks her out and fills her head with all the sweet things she has been missing. But STOP RIGHT THERE! This isn’t just an older woman taking compliments from a younger man, she is lusting for the body of a child and leading him on with coy ‘we can’t’ and phishing ‘I’m too old for you’. I am voluntarily reviewing this reader copy of Wolf Bride.

Tudor Era novels. I don’t have a good reason for not reading them, I just always think I don’t like them. Maybe it’s the tv show tripping me up. Anne Boylan wasn’t really a good friend to anyone, so maybe I always think she mucked up an entire Age. I pass these books by, after reading Wolf Bride I have a fresh palate and Elizabeth Moss has inspired me.

Mmm Cal Gatlin, I’ll have a dozen and keep them coming.

This is probably one of the most mature YA/NA books I’ve had. Great enjoyment to read. It’s basically teen erotica and my nineteen year old sister is not old enough to read it yet. Hell, I might not be mature enough to read it.
But I do definitely love it.

This is the good girl gone crazy for a bad boy with a heart of gold. He also has a potty mouth with a tendency to say dirty, dirty things. And he has a reputation that only a girlfriend in love could make light of. Continue Reading
