3. Don’t ever, ever let anyone know you’re friends.
For three years, I followed the rules. Vicky and I met once a week at the diner where I worked. I was her slice of normalcy, she was the one person I could confide in. It might have been unconventional, but it worked for us.
One night, all hell broke loose and I got caught up in a battle of bloodshed where we almost lost our lives. I ended up face to face with Vicky’s dangerous older brothers. Anthony, William, and Nicholas Civella–the made men of the Kansas City Mob.
After fighting for my life and proving myself worthy, they brought me into their deadly world. It was glamorous but twisted. Torture, death, and crime followed me everywhere I went, chiseling away at parts of me until I wasn’t the same anymore.
Slowly, I betrayed my best friend, and fell in love.
Chances are they’ll ruin me. This thing between us has deadly consequences. But in this criminal world, I’m learning that the rules don’t apply when you’re the boss.
Title: Well This Sucks Author: Carrie Gray and Coralee June Genre: Romantic Comedy Release Date:20 September 2020
I treat eating pancakes on patios like it’s a personality trait.
Brunch is my jam. I like the beach, shopping, carbs, and reading naughty books on the train during my commute. I wear pink. Lots of it. If Tinder were an Olympic sport, I’d take home the gold. I can rock stilettos like they’re a pair of Nike joggers. I’m basically basic.
I’m in the prime of my life. I’ve got my dream job as the head of marketing, and I’ve been steadily dating myself for the better half of the last decade. I’m thirty, flirty, and thriving.
Or at least I was, until some jerk had the audacity to turn me into a vampire.
I don’t do blood and doom and gloom. I sure as hell don’t like sleeping in a coffin, avoiding garlic bread, and these ridiculous vamp politics. And don’t get me started on Diego. He’s vampire royalty and a pain in my butt. A very sexy pain in the butt. When he’s not driving me crazy with all his rules, he’s turning my panties into Niagara falls.
I absolutely refuse to live the rest of my immortal life in some wannabe nineties grunge music video.
Coralee June is always satisfying. She’s pizza. I could happily one-click any of her books and come away from the experience without regret. And while Aggro is my introduction to Carrie Gray, it’s a happy one.
Breeze Shirley is understated, and she likes it that way. She doesn’t need to command the room, she lets her bestie, Violet, sparkle, and shine. Breeze is happy being in the ocean on her surfboard, riding waves. She’s loyal. Breeze loves honestly and true. She’s the best, best friend, a best friend could want. And Violet is her true blue. The two are deep in one another’s pockets and never too far apart. This is why when Violet is murdered, it shatters Breeze’s entire world–but worse it shows her all the shadows that existed in Violet’s that Breeze never knew existed.
This book is categorized as a romance, but really it’s much more of a coming-of-age story and a real heartbreaker, so bring your tissues because there are lots of times you are going to tear up. Breeze is an incredibly sympathetic character, and relating to her is so easy to do. She is written so beautifully vulnerable, and so full of graceful strength that you root for her to choose good things. I kept telling Breeze to choose healing instead of grief while tears were running down my face, and my nose was sniffling pathetically.
More stories from the Paranormal Prison; this time, a tale from Coralee June and Rebecca Royce about the Prison Princess and an assassin with heart.
Raised as an assassin, looking for an opportunity to make some coin, Cypress is more than willing to breach the walls of the Nightmare Penitentiary to free the long lost druid princess. If only the act could be as neatly done as the summary suggests. Because Layne is not what he expects, and juggling a naive, babe-in-a-new-world who is in awe of nearly everything from grass to gowns is a bit out of his job description of a cold-blooded killer.
