He Said, She Said – Gabfest and Gossip: Tijan

Mason-Date

Tijan’s giving the Tijanettes a long awaited treat all the sweeter than the kazillion sugary candy pieces she has been leaving a trail of through her sexy forest of moody stories and addictive characters. Mason is the prequel to the Fallen Crest novels and introduces us to the babe that steals Sam’s heart, and gives all of us Kade thirsty Tijanettes a look into the world through his pretty eyes. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mason. I’m pretty sure this novella is going to make panties dance and hearts moisten.

However, he does not want to be who he is. He does not enjoy hurting others, but there is no limit to the lengths he will go to protect himself and his brother. This is the story of how he came to be and this is why so many love Mason Kade.

Tijan on Tijan and Fallen Crest

When you first were developing the idea for Fallen Crest High what was the initial make up of Sam and where was she coming from? How much did she evolve from the first character sketch you had of her to the end result? Same for Mason and Logan?

I didn’t develop Sam. She just was. I don’t sit and consciously layer my characters into who I want them to be. They are just people in my mind already so Sam is the same today as she was when I first started FCH. It’s the same for Mason and Logan too. Although in Fallen Fourth Down readers will see different sides to them, but those sides were always there, they just weren’t shown because of certain circumstances.

There is this incredible class warfare that exists in the Fallen Crest world; do you know who or what is the actual basis of all that animosity historically or is that something that is gray for you?

Again, it just is for the story.

Mason first sees Sam at the gas station the fateful night when the Kade brothers bombed a few cars, rather extreme criminalistic behavior… how far down the path had Mason and Logan gone in this rivalry prior to car bombings? Specifically–roughly how many years SHOULD they be serving? =)

About a year.

And how many years should they be doing time serving for illegal activity. =)

I don’t know. It’s not pertinent to the storyline so I’ve not researched jail time.

Can you give a brief view of what life would have looked like in a parallel timeline for Sam, Mason and Logan’s as they grew up on this collision course to one day become so deeply part of one another’s lives?

You mean if they hadn’t met each other? Mason and Logan would be the same, except Mason wouldn’t have fallen in love with Sam. As for Sam, I can’t answer that because that would be a whole other book that I’ve not explored yet.

I was wondering if you could explain how different life was for Sam and Mason and Logan and what was going on in each of their lives at certain times prior to them meeting. When Analise married David in Sam’s timeline as opposed to the timeline for Mason and Logan for when they might have first fought with Brett and Budd? A brief look at the big events prior to FCH.

I can’t. That would be an entire other storyline or novel and to be honest, my head hurts thinking of it. I’m still not sure I answered your question right.

There is a strange dynamic in your novels and specifically Fallen Crest Series that separates friends and family. It’s scarily gang or mob-like in that loyalty speaks a lot louder than blood bonds; it means doing anything for those who have that loyalty. Why is it that these intense interpersonal relationships exist between the characters and what is it about Mason and Logan that predispose them to this mentality?

The interpersonal relationships exist due to circumstances that happened within their lives, mixed with their intelligence and the fact that Mason’s fed up being discarded like a toy (due to his father’s decision to cheat continuously throughout their life.)

Sam learns about her mom and Mason’s and Logan’s father on the day her mom turns her world upside down. What was it that Mason and Logan got to see going on between James and Analise while Analise cheated on her marriage?

This will be answered within the book, Mason’s novella. 🙂

How does Analise’s treatment of Sam affect Mason’s feelings for Sam? What about their relationship ultimately draws him to her?

Analise’s treatment doesn’t affect Mason’s feelings at all other than that he might be a bit more hateful towards Analise. He loves Sam with or without Analise’s treatment. Do you mean his relationship with Sam or her relationship with Analise for the second question? If you mean the women, then nothing. If you mean his and Sam’s, he loves her because she’s a survivor like him, but that’s just one aspect of why he loves her. There’s so much more.

The Mason and Nate bromance brings to light some chess maneuvering of key players of Fallen Crest Public over the years. I could never tell if they were using their power for good or evil or if it was purely Machiavellian. Where would you put the Rise of the “Masate” Empire on the purity scale?

Mason doesn’t hurt people just to hurt people. He hurts people who are trying to hurt him or someone he loves. Not sure about the scale, though.

Obviously, Mason and Logan have everything and they draw people to them but if you were to take away all the glitz, money and power and put them on the opposite end of the class war they are fighting and stuck them in a duplex or trailer would they be as attractive? Why? What is it that they have now that would translate easily into the “withouts”?

They’re still fighters deep down. Take away money, power, glitz, and they’re still them. They’ll still fight ’til the end.

Is there anything that you wrote about any of the characters upon introduction you wish you could take back or rewrite?

Nothing that I can think of right now, but to be honest, I don’t know if I would tell until after the series is done.
