Makin’ The Love Monday – Xaman by Simone Beaudelaire & Edwin Stark

Xaman

I tend to get in reading rut, like my choice in foods–I find something tasty and it’s all I eat for the next month. With reading I will be taken with a topic and read nothing but that for a while: YA, Science Fiction, stepbrothers, motorcycle clubs, Classics, shifters, urban fantasy, ménage, vintage romances… Then I will read something off the menu and it will blow me the eff away. Since I buy a lot of books (upward of 150-200/month) I sometimes flip through my e-reader and select a book by cover not knowing what in hell I’m getting into because Kindle doesn’t show me blurbs, and I’m stuck just pants-ing my novel choice. Some are winners, some are losers–this was a blue ribbon selection, and how I came to read Xaman. (And I don’t regret my cover loving in the least because the book was amazekitties.) Weekend Pick Me Up: Darkness by Laurann Dohner

Darkness4starWhat is sexier than sex on a stick? Sex on a stick that purrs and has momentously hugelicious control issues; in walks a manimal named Darkness and suddenly I need a shower, chocolate, intravenous injection of dilaudid and my mom talking in my ear to distract me until the hot flashes go away. From the second he was mentioned back in what, was it Moon’s book–maybe it was Shadow’s, I was all heavy in the breath for him. I love my men to be morally ambiguous; I want them to be like my coffee, black on the inside with a good dose of potential evil. Darkness isn’t called Darkness because he cuddles puppies and kisses babies; this cat likes playing with his dinner before he eats his prey. Eat me Darkness, play with me, eat me! Please mom, don’t read that! Continue Reading

Book It

Book It – In News Today: Gideon Reveals His Mmmm Mmmm Cover.

Gideon's-BannerI am more than willing to admit that I am a big effing fangirl when it comes to Airicka Phoenix books. I love them like sharks love chum and I act a little frenzied when I get a taste too. When I read Octavian’s Undoing I was in a hotel in Anaheim, CA while my husband was enjoying Blizz-con. I was so gone on Octavian that he gave me a sore back. Well only because the electric socket in the room was faulty and I had to perch awkward-like on the chair to keep my e-reader plugged in. I forgive him for my discomfort and pain. Riley was the better woman between the pair of us my sore body and yearning heart understood his choice. Where is this rambling going?… I couldn’t wait for the next book and I no longer have to wish on falling stars. Gideon’s story is to come soon! Airicka has revealed the cover of his book and announced that he will be arriving to tell me his story in September. Fear not, there are still a couple more Maxwells.

Any Day That Ends in YA – Summon by Penelope Fletcher

summon-strokeLet me start this off with saying that I liked the original name of the books in this series and the branding. If you don’t know what I’m talking about the first book was once called Demon Girl instead of Glamour and had a beautiful alternate cover that I honestly felt was more inline with the story and just more appealing. It was just before Enchant was released that Penelope renamed and rebranded the books which at the time lead me on the road to Holy What The Hell? Nothing like being in the middle of a series and suddenly have it disappear and be looking for a third book which should be named Demon Dark only to constantly have the book Enchant come up in the search in it’s stead. Note to authors: This is a bad, bad, bad idea. Don’t do this. Save your need to change things around for feng shui-ing your home and re-organizing your underwear drawer. Rename your family members and pets. Do not play with your income, readership or me. I’m testy and over opinionated and not afraid to tell you that this is all 40 days and 40 nights a dumb ass move.

Any Day That Ends In YA – Just A Touch by Brittany DeLys

Just A Touch - Brittany DeLysI mentioned a few weeks ago that I have been remiss in my YA book reading. I happened to find Brittany DeLys requesting reviewers for Just A Touch on Goodreads and I liked the description of this story. I lucked out because she was looking for ten reviewers and I think from the look of the amount of people who had replied to the post, I snuck in under the wire. I guess you could say I had a “touch” of luck.

…I know! I agree with you! I don’t know why I always go for the obvious puns. It’s an automatic thing. I blame something chromosomal!

He Said, She Said – Making Love 101 – Madeline Pryce

Making Love 101Making Love 101 has allowed me to come in contact with some incredible authors and make some great new friends. Madeline Pryce has been the very definition of kindness and patience and has been sending me bushels of email (((HUGS))), which I am forever thankful for because I think everyone can agree that when you have the flu 6 weeks out of 2 months, virtual TLC is right up there with Fresno’s potato soup and 4th of July. Well, you can’t agree with that, but I can say that and you can nod like you know what I’m talking about. Thanks oodles and noodles, Madeline!

Book Boyfriend Report – Red Moon by Elizabeth Kelly

Red MoonYou know it’s between lunch and dinner and I’m feeling a little peckish. I don’t feel like having anything too sweet, nothing too beefy. No carbs. No fizzy sodas. I definitely don’t want something that is going to make me feel sleepy. Oh, I know the perfect yummy thing! Just the thing to melt on your tongue and fill your hands: Lycan Lord, Tristan Williams. He might fill you up, but it will feel so good while it’s happening and you will have no guilt afterward. =)

Makin’ the Love Monday – Charred Heart by Lizzy Ford

Camera 360I think I fell in love with Lizzy Ford about a chapter into Katie’s Hellion. I had downloaded the book for free (It’s still free–go NAO!) from Amazon after just finding out there were free books on Amazon in the early part of May, 2012. (Late Kindle bloomer). I bought every book she had after that and ate them up like they were chocolate and I needed a fix. I didn’t know what end was up from one book to the next as far as trying to pick a favorite character because I loved all of them… Rhyn, Decker and Darian eventually rose to the top. I guess I like the tortured anti-heroes the most.
