Any Day That Ends In YA – Savage Delight by Sara Wolf

Savage DelightWhat is more beautiful than a sunset over the ocean or the early blooms of summer? Well some people might say the smile of their child and others might say the ruins of Angkor Wat… for me it’s the defeat of Jack Hunter. To watch the Ice Man fall is a truly a stunning thing and Sara Wolf, I give you two thumbs up and then I will find you more thumbs because you deserve a sea of them. It tickles my tickles that Savage Delight was the delightful inner feelies of a thawing Ice Prince.

The long awaited second book in the Lovely Vicious Series by Sara Wolf is due to be released next week, February 10, 2014. The book that originally had a release date in January had been delayed due to the fact that Isis and Jack were getting along too well and Sara had to remind them that they weren’t in fact friends. Book two continues the angst filled tale of the two most joy handicapped teenagers ever to encounter one another and it promises to deliver the snark, wit, and cleverly creative phrases of distress of Isis Blake.

Any Day That Ends In YA – Residue by Laury Falter

ResidueI have such a soft spot for any book placed in N’awlins. I think my fascination actually began when I was an early teen reading historical romances based in early New Orleans. Ever since I’ve just been attracted to all stories set in the Big Easy. It doesn’t matter much to me what that genre of that story might be, it’s enough for me to hear things like Bourbon St. and Jackson Square oysters and beignets–I’m hooked. The setting of Residue might have been the initial appeal but this modern day Hatfields and McCoys quickly checked my head and sucked me in.

Any Day that Ends in YA – Dust of Eden by Mariko Nagai

Camera 360 I have a very large soft spot for Asian based stories. I was very excited to read this book because although there are a great many books about the Holocaust and American and European accounts of World War II the stories of Japanese in America during the time of internment camps are few. Most people have forgotten that Japanese families were rounded up and spent years in camps with little to nothing as far as possessions in terrible, harsh conditions while many of the males were held and imprisoned on suspicion of sedition. It was a broad generalization of a nationality that punished and penalized thousands of AMERICANS who were innocent in every way but of having a heritage related to that of the Imperial Japanese Navy who had attacked the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It was an unspeakable racial bias that has been swept under the rug while Americans keep alive the memory of prejudice of blacks, women and religious practices as something we have overcome.

Any Day That Ends In YA – The Lost Girl Series by Airicka Phoenix

Ali I was torn about just where to post a review for this series. Hell, I didn’t even initially plan to review the series. I was going to just do Finding Kia. And I wasn’t sure if I was going to do it as my Any Day That Ends In YA post or Tongue Wagger or Weekend Pick Me Up… This series is an all around good read and Adam Chaves is tasty man meat and he rated high for Book Boyfriend Report too! These two book showed potential of covering all my review categories–and they gave me major feels. So they are getting group love in a full on series review. Gimme more, Madame Phoenix. Gimme more!

Any Day That Ends in YA – The Spirit Keeper by K.B. Laugheed

photoI had a case of reader’s peckishness over the later part of last week and I tried to read Tijan’s Carter Reed and I wasn’t feeling it. Opened up and got to chapter eight on Flight, the First book of the Crescent Chronicles. I got to 40% of Love in the Time of Global Warming. Barely made it into Endless by Amanda Gray, which is one I’m supposed to review for NetGalley–not sure what I’m going to do there. And I bought but didn’t even tap into the Bayou Heat books by Alexandra Ivy & Laura Wright. I was sort of having my own version of my baby sister’s attention span on book boyfriends.

Finally yesterday, with the blood vessels in my head trying to evict either my brain matter or protesting the housing of my skull… somehow I managed to get two books read. I don’t know what it says about me that I can do more reading with a migraine than I can without one.

The Spirit Keeper by K.B. Laugheed was really an incredibly great book. I hate making statements like that because I can hear my Photography Instructor from college saying in the back of my mind that that is not the correct way to give valuable criticism. But this book really is a great book. (Nancy, I am going to qualify it now! I swear.)

Any Day that Ends in YA – Still Star-Crossed by Melinda Taub

My Photo Strip 1002854341 I was so into reading Still Star-Crossed yesterday that I sort of fell asleep reading it and never got my Tuesday YA up. This book is not in anyway a snorer though. It it beautiful and funny–an incredible tribute to Shakespeare and love stories throughout time.

I found this book recommendation in a YA book chat room on a website, I can’t even remember which one, while on a book crawl over the weekend. Part of my bipolar curse is this fried negative feedback loop where I go on these lost hour book hunts looking for more and more and more until I have lists and Goodread TBRs despite all likelyhood of ever being able to read even a small percentage of them. Still Star-Crossed was love at first sight thing and I swore it would be read straight away.

Any Day that Ends in YA – Thousand Words by Jennifer Brown

IMG_5725I’m trying something new. I have been home in Pennsylvania visiting family for the last few weeks and my mom has an internet package conceived by a real miser and a connection which rivals the stability of a house of cards and playing telephone with two cans and a piece of string. Soon I will be going home and I will miss my family but I will have a little more routine. This I do pledge my oath… until the time when I no longer pledge my oath.

So I have been reading tons of books. It has been raining a lot and I commandeer the couch in those times when the sky can no longer keep Mother Nature’s tears at bay. More than a handful were worthy of recommendations and if you want to go to my Goodreads and look up my August 2013 reviews you can find me on the website by searching me by my name.
