I adore quirky heroines, and carb obsessed Sabina is one of my favorite book girlfriends of this year.

Sabina, Bean, to those close to her, is determined to uncover the mystery as to how her father died. She’s taken his truck and headed into the Northern Allegheny National Forest to figure it out and tumbled into Lunar Mile, a place off the map, where there are no women, and she shouldn’t be able to find. But it has a toilet and donuts so it can’t be all that bad–scratch that, the facilities are a petri-dish of ick and someone needs to clean that up stat!

I found myself chuckling at this book so much. Bean is outrageous, and her meltdown upon seeing a hot guy turn into a wolf is one of the best I’ve seen written.

Title: The Blind Hordesman (Hordesman #6)
Author: Milana Jacks
Genre: Omegaverse, Sci-fi Romance
My rating:

Hmmm. Are all Tayseers essentially the same?
The Blind Horseman reminded me a lot of the Alpha Collects, and it wasn’t anything heavy-handed that came to mind; it just felt like a hundred little things that kept pelting me. It was as if things were coming full circle but also all over again.

The Hordesman series ends with this book, all the offspring having their HEAs. Tayseer, much like his namesake, finishes this series, and instead of being a collector, he’s a warlord like his father, Loven. Still on the search for the Impostor and sent on the king’s mission, and by the word of the real King Father, to rid the earth of all of the Impostor’s assets, Seer is battling a future that includes his own coronation. He wants to war, not be king.

Title: Bryk (Mail Order Brides of Crakair #2)
Author: Ava Ross
Genre: Sci-Fi Alien Romance
My rating:
3 of 5 stars

I adore these books. Fans of Laurann Dohner will be all over them.

Bryk and his son Weld are looking for a woman. Don’t be crass. They want a wife and mother to make their house a home. But poor Sadie, because the Crakiars are cray cray and the Crakian world is even further insane.

This book isn’t as good as Vork or Axil. I guess Bryk and Disty the draquier don’t do it for me. However, this book introduces so much more of this world. Ava Ross builds on the Crakiar planet, moons, and denizens, filling out everything she’s introduced before. It’s fascinating.

Title: Don’t Fall For Me
Author: Gigi Black
Genre: Contemporary Romance
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Don’t Fall For Me is your typical fake fiancee romance, and there ain’t nothing wrong with that. This Cinderella story with a corporate vibe will please any reader who thirsts for subscription books from Harlequin and Silhouette.

Damien Woods is between a rock and his immovable father–a real despicable cat with nine reprehensible corporate lives–who can make the Woods offsprings’ life hell. His latest proclamation is that Damien finds a wife in the next thirty days or lose his inheritance and place in the company. Damien has just the person in mind. Someone he just reacquainted with, Hazel McCutcheon, the one he burns for, but threw away in high school, she drives him crazy and is desperate enough to go along with his ridiculous plan. Or so he thinks.

Cinderella is overworked. Her dad has cancer; she’s losing her family legacy to pay his medical bills. Hazel works a crap job with no help from her flighty sister, and handouts are still something she’s unready to accept. Worst she loathes Damien Woods. He’s arrogant. Sexy. Wealthy. Too powerful. And he won’t take no for an answer.

Title: Lords of Summer (Year of the Harem #1)
Author: Kayla Wren
Genre: Reverse Harem, Bully Romance
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

These bully books always kill me with the tension. Knowing that the awful is in the mail is terrible. I think if you’ve had a bully, you have a hard time romancing that crap up. Still, there is a rare breed of us who read bully romance novels for that crack at a happily ever after. Most bullies will never have Layla’s outcome. Mine? We would be lucky to have a PSA outcome. A lot are just statistics, which sucks because bully romances don’t address those sad numbers.

A summer job in Pembroke Bay is Layla MacKenzie’s jam. She’s rocking the freedom of all the woe college has wrought and the hell her bullies, the Birchwood Boys, wreak on her days. This is her summer, and it’s a new Layla, a fresh start, a way to get a breath finally. But nothing could be so easy when her devils are so eager to see her pay for her imagined sins.

Title: Dating Makes Perfect
Author: Pintip Dunn
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary Romance
My rating:
5 of 5 stars

I’m a huge Pintip Dunn fan, and it doesn’t matter if she’s writing sci-fi or contemporary YA I adore the stories she writes. If there is one thing, Pintip Dunn gets its conveying teen temptation in a repressed and traditional Asian community, and I always appreciate the diversity of her characters. This book is a fantastic introduction to her books if you’ve not read her before!

Dating Makes Perfect characters Winnie and Mat remind me of Alice and Bandit from Malice, but this story has zero sci-fi elements. Like Alice and Bandit, Winnie and Mat are a contentious pair, and Winnie, of course, thinks Mat is the entire problem when the actual issue is Winnie’s arrogance. These two are one of my favorite YA pairs of 2020. Mat is just the sort of book boyfriend you want for your sister, and I say that as a Bunny.

Trauma. PTSD. Coping mechanisms. Wolves–TRULY SEXY WOLVES. Academy romances. There are many things to unpack in Summer Semester: Omega Wolf Academy, so I need to figure out where to start.

Title: Forbidden Frost (Elemental Alien Mates #2)
Author: Riley Onyx
Genre: Sci-fi Alien Romance
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Forbidden Frost is an excellent continuation of this series! Kudos to Riley Onyx.

I’m going to try to do this without spoiling too much because Forbidden Frost has a lot of essential elements in its story that I think build the world and lore, and you should experience it in the book, not a review! So here goes.

This is the story of the rescue ship sent to save Rin; she watches it crash at the end of Succumb to the Storm. Leah is a medical technician on the team whose life is endangered when she nearly dies at the crash site. But what saves her, damns her and her savior, both.

Title: Oops, My Bad
Author: A.C. Pontone
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Rating: 3 of 5 stars

I want to give this an extra star for Demon the Cat, but I can’t honestly justify the indulgence–this is a solid three-star book.

Emily Baker’s life suuucks. She is one pizza delivery away from the end of a shift, and wouldn’t you know there is a cat out there just waiting to eff up her entire life.

Long, hard days at a veterinary practice aren’t the only reason Logan Price is grumpy; that quality is part of his disposition. Having a near-miss collision with a delivery scooter that almost wipes out a kitty cat is the last straw for today.

Yet after the altercation, Logan has no idea why the wrong-doer is turning him on, why he’s taking her back to his clinic with the cat, why he’s making the near cat killer a cat owner, or why he’s demanding she and the cat come back the following day. It has something to do with pheromones, or possibly he’s thinking with the wrong body part.

These two are an odd couple, and they are cute together. Emily is very whacky to Logan’s straight guy. Demon is further whacky to both of them. Oops, My Bad is a cute Rom-Com that has many chuckles. But one of the things it lacks is steam in its steamy parts. Those parts are rushed and read awkwardly. It feels like they are supposed to be dirty, but they are just dirty words instead.

Overall I did enjoy this read even though it has some clunky faults.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.

Title: The Lasaran (Aldebarian Alliance #1)
Author: Dianne Duvall
Genre: Sci-fi Romance
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I came by The Lasaran via another author’s recommendation. That particular author is aces in my book because I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

The Aldebarians are searching for their princess, who came to earth seeking an alliance between the two planets. Taelon only wants to rescue his sister, Riska, and return her home, but fate has other plans–the humans capture and study him torturously for years.

Lisa Holt is a down on her luck college student who has no one and nothing to call her own. She is eeking by taking on medical trial gigs that provide the basics like free food and rent money. Neither she nor her mentor knows whether the governmental trial for psychics is the real deal, but it looks promising as far as a payout, and she needs the money.
