What starts as a summer fling quickly turns into more. My carefully guarded heart is split wide open. Meeting him sends my life on a detour and threatens to destroy all my future life plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deb drops her slice of pizza on her plate and starts choking. I slide her drink closer and wait while she takes a sip to clear her throat, the whole time bracing for the backlash I know is coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry. . .\u201d She coughs again and takes another gulp of her soda. \u201cDid I hear you correctly? You asked Ryu to go with you to Boston?\u201d Her mouth hangs open in disbelief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought about keeping what happened the other night to myself, but it\u2019s driving me crazy. I need someone to talk to about this. Tell me I was stupid for asking. Or tell me I haven\u2019t completely lost my mind because I\u2019ve fallen for him and am not ready for it to end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat on God\u2019s green earth possessed you to do that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wince at her comment. \u201cWell, I\u2019m not one hundred percent sure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs this why you begged me to meet you tonight? So, you could drop this bombshell on me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I shrug. \u201cI figured if we were in public, you\u2019d be less likely to maim me.\u201d She huffs in annoyance, but she knows I\u2019m right. Pizza is her weakness, and I exploited it for my own personal gain, but safety comes first. And being out in the open lowers the chances of her going off on me like she would if we were at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot only do you use my love for Tony\u2019s pizza against me, but you made sure we had eyes all around us?\u201d She leans back in her seat and shakes her head. \u201cAt least you let me eat a few slices first. Well, get on with it. Tell me what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t just tell her about the other night, I also tell her about the day he left jail. They don\u2019t have anything to do with each other, but in my head I need everything that’s happened this week off my chest. I swear her eyes keep getting bigger and bigger the more I spill. When I\u2019m all done, I expect her to dive right in with her opinion, but she just sits there blinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOk, let me get this straight. You saw him leave jail on Monday, but you don\u2019t know why he was in there to begin with. Then you go over to his house two days later, sleep with him and invite him to come to Boston with you. Now you guys aren\u2019t really talking?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I shake my head. \u201cWhen you sum up everything like that, I can hear how fucking ridiculous it all sounds. Which is why I need your help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She blows out her cheeks before diving back into her food. I tilt my head to watch her shovel the pizza into her mouth. When she polishes that slice off in no time flat, she shoots me a glare. \u201cWhat? I\u2019m stress eating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy are you stressing? I\u2019m the one with the issue. This was supposed to be fun, nothing more. And I fucked that up with one question. The only way I could\u2019ve screwed this up more would\u2019ve been if I asked him to marry me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlease, for the love of God, tell me you didn\u2019t,\u201d she gasps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I toss my crust at her. \u201cNo! Jeez. I\u2019m not that crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, just crazy enough to ask a guy who you barely know, that\u2019s been in jail, to move up north with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
