OWEN WATCHED DR. Sadie Hart pop open the trunk of her SUV and give orders to her team as they pulled packs and bags from the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He wasn\u2019t sure what he expected when Colson had told him they\u2019d called in a doctor to excavate the bones, but it definitely wasn\u2019t the steely-eyed, brick-balled, smoking-hot stunner standing before him now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He guessed she was somewhere in her early thirties\u2014which was his first shocker\u2014with dark, hooded, almond-shaped eyes that were as skeptical as they were beautiful. Chestnut hair against smooth, pale skin and a face with defined, strong lines that seemed to fit her personality. And the sexiest pair of pouty, come-fuck-me lips he\u2019d ever seen in his life. Based on the worn khaki tactical pants and scuffed leather hiking boots, Sadie was no stranger to the woods. And, based on the curves in the back of her pants and the T-shirt that stretched against generous breasts, she wasn\u2019t unaccustomed to getting looks from men. But the way she carried herself, the squared shoulders, no-nonsense braid of brown hair that ran down her back\u2014occasionally falling over her shoulder, remedied by an annoyed flick of her hand\u2014and look of determination in her eyes told him that she\u2019d fought for her title as doctor, almost as much as she\u2019d fought for the respect that came along with that title. A bit prickly on the initial impression, and perhaps one of those women who\u2019d cut you at the balls just to prove she could? No doubt about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He watched her shrug on a blue backpack that was half her weight, and sweep her braid to the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No-nonsense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her gaze flickered to him again, as it had done a dozen times since she\u2019d stepped out of her SUV. Subtle, stolen glances laced with questions\u2014or interest, perhaps. He wasn\u2019t sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But something inside him wanted to find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
