On September 23, 2014 Tijan posted a challenge to her followers on her Facebook account, Tijan’s Books, that the reward for reaching 27,000 likes would be a teaser from the long awaited second<\/em> Carter Reed novel. Carter Reed is the book which tells the gritty love story of Emma and the man she has always loved but has become a powerful figure in the crime world, Carter Reed. The book was the first adult novel Tijan wrote and continued her signature style while catapulting her out of the YA genre into the NA\/Contemporary Adult Romance genre.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Carter Reed 2 Excerpt:<\/strong><\/p>\n They hurt her.<\/span><\/p>\n That wouldn\u2019t happen again. No matter where. No matter who. If they touched one hair on Emma\u2019s body, I would kill them. I made the promise to myself when AJ died and it only grew stronger with each day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The elevator pinged my arrival and as the doors slid open, I saw her. She was sleeping on the ground. A blanket was laid over her and her head was tucked to the side. Her hand was under her cheek, acting as an impromptu pillow. She looked at peace, then I saw the blood streak that ran down the side of her cheek. \u201cCarter.”<\/span><\/p>\n I didn\u2019t look to the side, but I knew Cole\u2019s voice. I said to him, \u201cYou got her out.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe men who attacked her?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n I didn\u2019t say any more. I didn\u2019t need to. Cole understood and he replied, \u201cThey\u2019re dead.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n But there were more. There was the ones who had ordered the attack. I turned to him and our eyes met. Cole had gotten out of the lifestyle. I\u2019d been the one to save his life, but he was back and certain decisions had to go through him before they could be followed out. I knew what I was going to do and technically he had to approve it. A shared look of understanding passed between us. He already knew what I was going to do, just like I knew that I was going to do it whether or not he approved it, however; formalities existed for a reason and I wasn\u2019t going to waste any more time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI saved your life years ago.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He nodded. \u201cYou did.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnd I know you were trying to save mine.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He nodded again. \u201cI thought you\u2019d be safe if you didn\u2019t come back into this. We\u2019re at war. You didn\u2019t need to be pulled back in. You bought your way out.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I looked back at Emma. They came after her. I wasn\u2019t out. I had never been out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I turned back to him. \u201cI\u2019m going to kill them all.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI know.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n With that exchange, it was done. Nothing more needed to be said and so I went to Emma, bent down, and lifted her into my arms. Thomas and my men were around me, but they walked beside me as I carried her into the car. I held her the entire ride home. She didn\u2019t stir once and after I settled her into bed, she still didn\u2019t make a move. She needed her rest. She was healing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Gazing down at her, I was torn. My gun was next to her on the nightstand. I felt it beckoning to me. I could go now, before they had time to regroup. I\u2019d get more of them then, but the need to hold her was clawing at the inside of me. Closing my eyes, for just now, I couldn\u2019t pull myself away from her.
