When we got to the fraternity house, Nate met us at the door. He gave me a slight frown. \u201cI thought you were doing dinner first?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChange of plans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh.\u201d He continued to frown. \u201cOkay.\u201d Then, as if remembering the rest, a quick smile covered his face and he reached behind him. Tossing a beer to Logan, he said, \u201cHelp yourself. I figured you wanted to release some stress this weekend?\u201d A second beer was handed to Logan\u2019s girlfriend. She took it and her eyes lit up like Nate gave her a hundred dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n

I frowned. The girl was weird.<\/span><\/p>\n

Logan laughed, throwing his arm around her shoulders. He jerked his chin up, saying to Nate, \u201cForget the bullshit about who you\u2019re bunking with, you\u2019re a good man to me right now.\u201d He glanced sideways at me as he added, \u201cI\u2019m all about staying out of trouble, you know.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I grinned, but Nate frowned. \u201cUh. Okay.\u201d He turned to me. \u201cAnything I should know about?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe might not stay long.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah.\u201d A knowing look came over him. \u201cI figured.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Logan snorted, opening his beer and taking a swallow. As he finished, he gestured the beer to me. \u201cMase wants to put off the battles for as long as possible, but we all know his tolerance of ass kissers. He\u2019s got none. Do him a favor, Nate, stop bringing your buddies around him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh god,\u201d Sam groaned beside me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Logan\u2019s girlfriend squeaked and moved an inch behind the group. Logan was riled up. He wanted to fight. Sam saw it too and we shared a look. It was going to happen.\u00a0<\/span>Nate just sighed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Catching Logan\u2019s gaze, I looked pointedly at his girlfriend. I wanted to talk, but not in front of her. He rolled his eyes, but got the message. \u201cKris?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou said you wanted to go to the bathroom.\u201d With a hand behind her back, he propelled her further inside the house. \u201cMaybe Nate can show you where it is?\u201d<\/p>\n

That was his signal. He didn\u2019t want Nate to be a part of our talk. And Nate got it. His nostril\u2019s flared, his jaw clenched, but he forced out a polite smile. \u201cOf course. I\u2019ll take you to my own bathroom. It\u2019s clean and private.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh good.\u201d<\/p>\n

His hand replaced Logan\u2019s on her back and he guided her forward, but shot Logan a dark look over his shoulder. Logan lifted his beer in a salute.<\/p>\n

I snorted.<\/p>\n

Sam began to move to the side of the patio, but I shook my head. \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Logan added, gesturing to the window right next to it, \u201cYou have no idea what they can hear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh. Okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

I led the way off the patio and to a corner of the yard. A few people had gathered outside, but they weren\u2019t paying us any attention. I looked at my brother. \u201cWhat\u2019s got you worked up? Did you really hate Sebastion that much?\u201d He was annoying, but damn, a bug could be squashed easily. Logan\u2019s reaction didn\u2019t make sense.<\/p>\n

He shook his head. \u201cWhatever. I\u2019ll be nice. No worries.\u201d<\/p>\n

I glanced at Sam. \u201cSomething else happen that I don\u2019t know about?\u201d<\/p>\n

Logan snorted. \u201cLike she\u2019d answer that truthfully.\u201d<\/p>\n

My alarms shot up and studying Sam, I caught the glare she sent his way. Her lips pressed tight and she shook her head, turning away. She\u2019d been present with me. I felt her. Sam could slip away. Her mind would leave the room, thinking about other things, and she could shut her emotions off, but I knew it was because of Analise. Being raised by a monster like that would leave scars, deep scars, but I had felt her just now. She\u2019d been present. She\u2019d been real. She\u2019d been raw. It was a different Sam than I had ever felt before.<\/p>\n

She was gone again. Her walls were back up and I touched her elbow, tugging her to me. \u201cHey. What\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

She began to shake her head when Logan muttered, \u201cShocker.\u201d She stopped. Her glare doubled.<\/p>\n

I looked between the two. \u201cWhat the hell is going on?\u201d They were involved in a heated stand-off.<\/p>\n

Sam crossed her arms over her chest, but one of her hands broke free. She gestured to Logan. \u201cAsk him. We were fine this morning and now he\u2019s ready to rip into the world.
\nThe guy was an ass, but Mason\u2019s right. He wasn\u2019t that bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Logan rolled his eyes. \u201cMaybe I\u2019m just sick of the bullshit and lies going on. Something is obviously going on with you and you won\u2019t say a word about it to me. This,\u201d his finger moved in a circle between the three of us, \u201cis a joke. I\u2019m in Fallen Crest, but it\u2019s like I\u2019m a stranger to you. Now, coming here, and\u2014\u201d He stopped and cursed under his breath. \u201cWhatever. I\u2019m fine. I\u2019m sorry.\u201d He sent me an apologetic look. \u201cSam\u2019s been distant as hell since you left. I have to fight with my girlfriend\u2019s sister just so I can see her. We went five rounds today. That\u2019s why we\u2019re late and now seeing Nate with that douchebag. What the hell, man? It\u2019s like he doesn\u2019t even want to be friends with you anymore. That pisses me the fuck off. I just want to punch someone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I’m hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile!
