I picked this book up because it was in my Goodreads recommendations. I retain that fascination I’ve had since I was twelve for love affairs between Jane Doe and Famous Rocker\/Actor\/Model\/PIRATE–And yes, whenever you encounter the word PIRATE, it must be spelled in all caps and said with a bit of a guttural growl and a look of grim constipation.<\/p>\n
Most of the time books like Falling For the Ghost of You give me a few hours of happy. I get over it like all good things and I mellow back to that general, I might be bloating or it could be constipation feeling, then I read another book. This won’t be happening with this book. It was so hilarious that I was belly laughing so loud my husband thought I was emotionally unhinged and neck deep in psychotic hysterics.<\/p>\n
I don’t even know where to start first with which point to start marking with gold stars. Violet’s perpetual embarrassment and hopeless humiliation reminded me of the Paul Rudd movie I Love You, Man. It’s really wrong to find other’s pain comical, but sometimes you just can’t be an upstanding person. I know laughing at soul scarring loss of dignity makes me a bad person but there is something about a teenage girl blurting out ‘nice ass’ in an awkward moment when she catches her crush with a naked woman in his bed that makes me love her social impairment–and, no, she wasn’t talking about HIS ass. LOL. I also loved her mother’s blurting out about Violet stripping at her grandmother’s bakery over the summer.\u00a0(Did I just write LOL in a review? Oh c’mon, now! What a sad, sad world I live in.)<\/p>\n
Zane is chocolate cupcake delicious. The happenings with the thing and he does that thing and Violet responds by doing a thing of her own which makes him want to do that thing more… I just have to say that I will never swim in the apartment complex pool again without hoping that some heavenly-sent guy will be fascinated with my fun bags and whisper naughty things in my ear. It’s unfortunate that almost every male that visits our pool is between the ages of five and the cusp of their teens. It will only tarnish the fantasy of a little Zane-ity in my life and so you all know, David loves my fun bags and is constantly telling me that I can lose all the weight I want, but not any of their bounce and plushness. I will look like the strangest proportioned Lollipop Kid in the pool when my inflation devices look strangely like a truck tire which is only in the front of me. A large truck tire. David had better read this book for when the truck tire part comes up.<\/p>\n
Only one of the reveals was something I saw coming. I think it was sort of overly obvious, but the feelings and the atmosphere around it was handled well. The major who-dunit smacked me like a freight train. I still giggle myself silly with this one. Nicole Christie appears to be an online enigma. I’m guessing she must be a very well appointed member of some Government Cabinet that can only be free with her genius and magic when she is making up brilliant cray cray like this.<\/p>\n
I will definitely read more titles by Nicole Christie. I really loved this cast of characters.
