“I did?”<\/p>\n

“Yep.\u00a0 And I bet you look even better right now in bed.”<\/p>\n

My pulse races.\u00a0 How does he know I’m in bed?<\/p>\n

He yawns, and that makes me yawn too, even though now I’m wide awake.<\/p>\n

“Thanks.\u00a0 You weren’t that bad to look at yourself.\u00a0 What makes you think I’m in bed?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know.\u00a0 I was just guessing.\u00a0 It is the middle of the night.”\u00a0 He pauses before adding, “And that’s where I’ve been picturing you.”<\/p>\n

I blush.\u00a0 “You’re picturing me?\u00a0 What am I wearing?”\u00a0 I laugh to myself, thinking that the clich\u00e9 question is suppose to be “What are you<\/i> wearing?”\u00a0 But we’re in his imagination and I’m eager to know what he keeps there.<\/p>\n

He makes a humming sound that vibrates all the way through me.\u00a0 “You really want to know?”<\/p>\n

“Yes.”\u00a0 My one-word answer comes out slowly and wavers in and out, sounding like a question.<\/p>\n

I hear the air hiss through his teeth before he says, “It isn’t much.\u00a0 Sleep well.\u00a0 I’ll see you in the morning.”\u00a0 Then he’s gone before I even say goodnight or talk him further into a pay-by-the-minute type of conversation.<\/p>\n

I won’t bore you with the details, but my faithful device, Mr. Right, just didn’t cut it tonight. \u00a0 Maybe it’s time for a new one.<\/p>\n
