He\u2019s thin, far\u00a0past his normal slender build, almost emaciated. His skin is soft gold from months in the sun, his\u00a0dark hair hanging unruly around his ears. His posture isn\u2019t the arrogant disregard she\u2019s used to<\/p>\n from Seth\u2014it\u2019s hunched, almost defensive. A bruise is ugly and yellow on his jaw, from where\u00a0Caleb hit him.<\/p>\n She touches it, without thinking, and Seth flinches away.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s get lunch,\u201d she says, looping an arm through his. Quinn will wonder what\u00a0happened to her, but that thought barely registers\u2014Seth is here, and she\u2019s pulling him along.<\/p>\n They get greasy hot dogs from a vendor and a cup of Coke that makes her teeth chatter.<\/p>\n It\u2019s street fare, but delicious, and she revels in it\u2014the prince of the city and his favorite cousin,\u00a0sitting on the stoop of a shop like any commoner. She picks at her hot dog and watches him out\u00a0of the corner of her eye. Seth eats pensively, staring at the traffic and people rushing past.<\/p>\n \u201cYou missed it,\u201d she says, picking an onion off the hot dog.<\/p>\n Seth nods. \u201cYes.
