Real deal, like a heart attack, kind of read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They Call Me Gomer is one of those reads that pulls you in and drags you through in immersion therapy. J.C. Miller doesn’t just use diary entries, but she enriches the story with the characters’ tongue. You can hear the speech, feel the personalities. She takes you there and makes you part of Go-Go’s story–the path she makes through her early life and the bumps and thumps she takes. They Call Me Gomer is not a pretty tale. It’s rife with instability, self-destruction, and a desire to live the better of the best life. GoGo’s journey is sometimes something you would want to turn away from but can’t stop yourself from reading more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I deeply appreciated the straightforward way J.C. Miller portrays Go-Go and life in her time. Go-Go’s choices weren’t what she was searching for, and Miller never romanticizes the hiccups, Go-Go openly acknowledges all her mistakes. She also sees everyone around her for what they are. The girl never expects a snake to do anything other than to bite. I love the character for that common sense in a dark life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The silver lining in this book is the relationship between Go-Go and her best friend, Hosea. In a dirty world, Go-Go has one light. She believes that she is a wicked woman, but one person sees who Go-Go is despite all her weakness to temptation, and Hosea loves her for it all the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This book is a retelling of the Biblical Book of Hosea, and the modernization of it shows the timelessness of the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About J.C. Miller:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JC Miller is a freshly anointed, faith-based literary artist. Raised by her mother in the Bronx, New York, she uses her childhood experiences to capture the soul of the ghetto. As a former student of Chicago\u2019s, Moody Bible Institute, and a graduate of, Te’Hillah School of Urban Ministry, she produces a depiction of the pop culture era of which she grew up in and creatively intertwines it with biblically based characters and their divine accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JC Miller is also the co-founder of a nonprofit called, Diamond Daughters Inc.; an organization developed to help educate and uplift women of abuse. She recently co-founded a publishing company, Jess, Mo\u2019 Books, with her childhood friend, MR Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
